From Community Mapping to Action: Strengthening Local Understanding

Ribat Association volunteers participated in a training performed by UN-Habitat, UNICEF, and UN Women on community mapping. This aimed to strengthen their skills in understanding the local community and identifying its needs, resources, and priorities in a participatory manner.

The training included a variety of practical tools, most notably information gathering and analysis, observation and community mapping, studying the area’s history and current context, interviews and focus group discussions, stakeholder analysis, and identifying and prioritizing needs. It also focused on the principles of protection, gender, and inclusion without causing harm.

Then the volunteers visited fields in the neighborhoods of Beddawi to apply the tools they had learned, communicate directly with community members, observe and collect information, and gain a deeper understanding of the needs, challenges, and resources present on the ground.
